Franz Reichelt Jumps Off the Eiffel Tower with his Coat Parachute and Dies

I'm not sure exactly how well known this is, but I just came across it. Basically, Franz Reichelt tests his coat parachute by jumping off the Eiffel tower in 1912. He doesn't succeed, but they do end up measuring the hole he put in the ground.
